A Letter from the Publisher

With these sky-high gas prices, my wife, the perennial optimist likes to say, “Well, it’s just great that people are getting into smaller cars again!” Now every time we pass a VW Bug or a Ford Fiesta or a beat up Honda, she beams a little on the inside, feeling that somehow, she won’t be alone in owning a tiny little auto.

Meanwhile, I, being the one that fills up the gas tank of our Jeep every week, am just praying for the day when I’ll have enough time and money to work on that electric car conversion I’ve always dreamed of. My eyes glaze over with the clicking of the gas pump, and I envision all the free rides on electricity, the non-hassle of plugging in each night, not having to change oil or worry about crummy radiators.

But until that time, my only comfort is knowing I’m easing up on the gas pedal a little more these days, coasting whenever I can, and driving at the recommended” 55mph, a self-imposed limit neither I or my alter ego as a Sammy Hagar fan, would have ever envisioned for myself. Every drive is a Sunday drive, and to be honest, I think I see a little more of that amazing Arizona scenery the tourists are always talking about.

In this edition you’re holding right now, we have some incredible stuff within. Famed literary agent, Aaron Levy makes a return — the first so far this year, since he went off on his highfalutin career indoctrinating freshmen in the art of the English language — to tell those of us who might have forgotten the long and winding road of the Pride Movement. Laurent Weichberger balances spirituality with the new psychotropic phenomenon of Ayahuasca, and spells out the risks. Susan DeFreitas discovers “missed connections.” And Mattea Kramer investigates whether there is an upside to the surge in gas prices. Plus, John Abrahamsen rounds out a full section on It’s the Arts, Chipotle Frank and Mike Williams provide a thorough Music for the Masses, Ellen Jo Roberts gives us the low-down on running (for fun?), Charles Harper ruminates on art & music, and John Bianchini fills us in on the haps out in the North-East. Plus, if you missed it last month, be sure to check out Chicken Laid Horoscopes … they might just get you through the month.

Here’s to good reading!
